BMA prepares tourism promotion activities to boost local economy

(August 31, 2020) Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, chaired the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Executives Meeting and, in the meeting, Culture, Sports and Tourism Department reported approaches for the development of local tourist destinations to promote grassroots or local economy during the pilot phase at district zone level.

As the situation of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‑19) pandemic is having a devastating effect on the change of social and economic condition, people in community cannot go to work and lose income. In order to carry out the government’s policy on tourism, the Governor of Bangkok assigned the Culture, Sports and Tourism Department to plan implementation framework for the development of local tourist destinations to promote grassroots or local economy during the pilot phase at district zone level.

Activities to boost economy and promote tourism in 6 district zones will be piloted in 6 areas, adjusting to the New Normal, namely, Walking Street, Culture Street, or other activities that fit the context of each area with art and cultural performances, Music Street, Art Street, booths selling community products, talent show of children and youths from BMA affiliated schools in the local area, contest and competition, etc. For the tourism route, it will be in the form of One Day Trip, for example, One-Day-Three-Districts trip and waterways tourism, which will be considered as appropriate for each area.
