BMA improves the underpass at Rama IX Road for public safety and convenience

(August 25, 2020) Mr. Sakchai Boonma, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, presided over the opening ceremony of the Nine Bridge in which the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) received support from MBK Public Company Limited (MBK Center) in improving the underpass at Rama IX road in order to increase safety and convenience for people living in Suan Luang District.

Suan Luang District Office has received various complaints from people in communities located near Rama IX road that they face difficulty in crossing the road.  As there is only one footbridge, which is not enough for commuters, and it is located quite far away from where people live; therefore, many people have to walk under the bridge crossing Lao Canal or in front of the Nine Center Rama 9. This path is originally an old soil walkway of about 2.00 – 2.50 meters width, which is neither secured nor strong. At night, it is poorly lit, quite dark, and desolate. People walking through this path can be in danger or at risk of having accident.

The new underpass shows cooperation between public and private sector in developing the area and solving problems occurred within locality for public benefit. People can commute safely and conveniently which also reduce the risk of having road accident.
