All transportation agencies plan for next phase of lenient measures

On 20th May 2020, Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, presided over the meeting which discussed on the preventive measures to contain the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in using public transportation services. The meeting was participated by BMA executive team and representatives from following related agencies: Ministry of Transport, Department of Land Transport, Marine Department, Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT), Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BTSC), Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) and Chao Phraya Express Boat Co., Ltd.

From the discussion, all agencies have agreed that social distancing measure is important and are willing to comply with the BMA regulations regarding this matter. Moreover, the meeting had proposed the government and private sectors to attach importance to the overlapping working hours as they believed that it is significant in controlling the spread of the disease as it helps balance the number of commuters.

The BMA has requested all involved agencies to plan for the next phase of lenient measures; for example, to restrict the number of commuters to suit social distancing measure, to reorganize boarding methods and waiting points for commuters at public transport stations, and to request commuters to avoid having a conversation and using mobile phone while using public transportation services.
