Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, revealed that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the general public took part in “60+ Earth Hour 2020” with its theme “#voiceforThePlanet”. The event urged all Thai people to turn off unnecessary electricity utilization from their electrical appliances in households and buildings for 1 hour, from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. on Saturday, 28th March,2020.
The BMA arranged symbolic lights-out key landmarks at five locations : the Grand Palace, Wat Arun, Sao Chingcha, Rama 8 Bridge and the Golden Mount. Furthermore, 50 district offices invited 126 entrepreneurs to join the event as well.
The result of the electricity utilization in Bangkok among the event reduced 2,482 megawatts, which were equivalent to 6.05 million baht and 749 tons of carbon dioxide reductions, the Governor said.
Compared to the maximum electricity demand in Bangkok on April 25th, 2019 which was about 6,204.24 megawatts. It decreased the spent of 10.15 million baht and reduced 1,219 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Over a decade of its involvement in 60+ Earth Hour from 2008 to 2020, the BMA has succeeded in reducing 22,369 megawatts which equal 80.97 million baht and 12,227 tons of carbon dioxide reductions.
